Despite Saturday’s scorching temps, a slew of tomato fans united in East Nashville for the annual Tomato Art Fest. In keeping with the festival’s motto, “The Tomato…A uniter not a divider… bringing together fruits and vegetables,” all genres of music played
on three stages throughout the day and evening. several new and pre-events were added this year to keep it fresh. These included: Paint Your Sole (a shoe decorating contest), Tomato-Olympics and Tomato Fairy Costume Contest. Other festivities included; the King and Queen Pageant, Faux Paw Pet Fashion Show, Heirloom Tomato Tasting, Red Head Contest, Bloody Mary Contest, Ugliest, Biggest, and Littlest Tomato Contest and of course the Tomato Art Show.
“With a festival in Music City, adding more music to the event is a natural fit,” said Meg MacFadyen, Fest co-founder and co-owner of Art & Invention Gallery, vis press release. “Plus, the Tomato Art Fest has always offered East Nashville’s creative and business communities an opportunity to share what they love about East Nashville, this includes music and, of course, those wonderful tomatoes.”
Local business owners did have a great opportunity to share their talents at this years fest. Among those businesses pictured are- Marrah Florita of m.Florita (jewelry), Scott Witherow of Olive & Sinclair Chocolate (which was deelish), Shane Messer of Nuvo Burrito and Tom & Stacia Hadley of East Side Smiles.
Among the others pictured- Ashley “Queen” Lycopene, Tomato Fest King Ian, Melba Toast, Bethany Grant (tomato Hiku) and Amanda Watson with Chris St. Clark.
The festival has been voted Best Festival two years in a row by the Nashville Scene Readers Poll.
