Vandy’s Rites of Spring music festival will appeal to a broad range of music lovers this year. The two-day festival will feature both psychedelic alt rockers The Flaming Lips and hip-hop rappers N.E.R.D. A Tribe Called Quest leader Q-Tip, Santigold, Okkervil River, Black Joe Louis and his band the Honeybears are among the other performers announced so far, according to the Tennessean.

Rites of Spring will be April 17-18th, tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster Monday and range from $20 to $55.

Feist, Lil Jon, Wolfmother and The Roots are just a few of the bands that played the festival in recent years.

Sexy, Single and in the City~

Hundreds of Nashvillians came to the Bound’ry Tuesday night to mingle with some of the most sought-after singles in the city, for the Sixth Annual Single in the City event.

Guest enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and the opportunity to bid on dates with each single feature in the magazine, which included country cutie Jake Owen and several Tennessee Titans. At last glance, Emily Maynard was leading the pack of silent auction bids with a price tag of more than $3,000. That’s a lot of darn money, but of course it does benefit local charities.

The exclusive after-party was held at Hollywood Disco.

Oscar Night America at Nashville’s Belcourt Theatre

The prestige and glamour of Hollywood returned to Nashville’s Belcourt Theatre on Oscar Night. Nashville socialites came out to experience the excitement of Nashville’s own official Oscar Night America party for the 10th year at the historic Belcourt Theatre. The event is one of only 52 officially sanctioned Oscar parties across the country.

The red carpet was rolled as guests were greeted by the paparazzi. Inside you could bid on a silent auction, while nibbling on hors d’oeuvres before enjoying the show on The Belcourt’s two movie screens.

Among those pictured at The Belcourt’s biggest fundraiser of the year- Sheryl Spencer, “outgoing” Board Chairman Mark Chalos & Toby Leonard, Heidi Short& Karen Hicks and josh hayes (event host).

Sweethearts for Scholarships Gala 2009

The annual Sweethearts for Scholarships Gala was held Valentine’s weekend at the Hilton Downtown, benefiting Nashville State Community College. Brent Young, Executive Director of Nashville State, welcomed more than 350 of Middle Tennessee’s philanthropic and community leaders to a 4 course meal, live auction and an intimate, acoustic concert by James Otto, who sang some of his hits from the past year including the Just Got Started Lovin’ You.

Ebie McFarland was the 2009 Gala Chair, while James and his wife Amy were the 2009 Celebrity Sweetheart Honorees.

More than $70,000 was raised for student scholarships at Nashville State Community College. This year’s emphasis was on scholarships for single mothers working more than one job and continuing their education.

From Country Stars to Rockers, lots of celebs: Seen in the City

Friday night Motley Crue played the Sommet Center and afterward members of the “crew” were spotted out and about in Music City. Tommy Lee was seen hanging at Nashville hotspot Lime Friday night, the following day he was at the new 1808 grille at the Hotel Hutton. Vince Neil was spotted in the lounge of the Vanderbilt Loews hotel, both Friday and Saturday night.

Were any celebs at the show? I’m sure. Trent Tomlinson was seen rocking out at the Crue concert. Chad Kroeger of Nickelback just may have been there as well, or perhaps at an after party. He was spotted getting out of a limo at the Hotel Hutton late night/early morning Friday.

Country couple Tim McGraw & Faith Hill were also spotted over the weekend, dining at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.

Thanks to all my steph spies for the scoops! If you see anyone out and about email me HERE!!!

The Scene in the City~

I used to do a weekly segment on News 2 known as “The Scene in the City.” It was basically a look ahead at some upcoming events. There are a few I find interesting this week so here ya go.

Wanda Jackson is performing at the 5 Spot Tuesday, Feb. 17th with Those Darlins. This show is sure to be full of fun dancing, possibly celeb sightings and who knows how many more stops “The Queen of Rock” will make to Nashville. Tickets are $15 at the door and are first come, first served. Wanda will also be inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame April 4th.

On Sunday the 22nd the glamour of Hollywood returns to Nashville’s Belcourt Theatre for Oscar Night. The Nashville event is one of 52 official parties sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that will be held across the country for the 81st Academy Awards®. This is one of my favorite events of the year and proceeds benefiting the historic Belcourt Theatre.

Then on Tuesday the 24th you can mingle with some of Nashville’s sexiest singles at The Bound’ry. Nashville Lifestyles Magazine will host their 6th annual “Single in the City” party, another one of my must-dos for the year. Jake Owen, Emily Maynard and Titans’ Vincent Fuller II are among those on this years list as well as my pals; Ebie McFarland, Carrie Simons, Jensen Sussman and Trish Vogel. If you’re not single that’s okay, it’s always a great party and this year it’s Mardi Gras!

“Free Rides” at mustache bash~

I randomly ended up at a party where I knew no one last Thursday night. The creepy part was that everyone had mustaches. So maybe I did know some peeps after all, but I sure didn’t recognize them. There were handlebar staches, Fu Manchu Mustaches, Walrus staches, Pencil Thin Mustaches, Chaplin staches and even finger, ear and nose mustaches.

Derek Pell (apparently a fiddle player for Ray Price and Willie Nelson) ended up being the party thrower. He made sure there was signage, along with an official Mustache Rider (pictured). It wasn’t long before I was welcomed to the group with a stache of my own, “The Burt Reynolds mustache.”

I actually grew to like my hairy friend, except it itched and occasionally a few hairs flew in my drink. However, that didn’t stop my stached girls from rockin’ the lip hair at Melrose Neighborhood Pub. My fav lines for the evening, “I just died it tonight” and “You know you want a mustache ride.” Yeah, the stache got the best of me and we had good times.

I highly suggest throwing a mustache party of your own or sporting a mustache (ladies) out on the town for a random night if silliness.

Music City Burlesque presents “Love Stinks”

Warning: some of these pictures may not be appropriate for young readers.

The ladies of Music City Burlesque brought their experience from the cruel game called love to a packed crowd with “Love Stinks, an anti-valentines day celebration.” The Friday night show at The Rutledge was yet another sell out for MCB, this time nearly 100 sad fans were turned away.

The girls incorporated their own touch of anti-love vibes into each performance, by celebrating broken hearts, tears, betrayal and bitterness.

Miss Lolly Pop showcased an assortment of flashy costumes as host of the evening. Kitty Lee shocked the crowd when blasting shots from her pink marshmallow gun. Lux O Matic dragged her dead husband out and ripped his heart out, which she then smeared all over her body. Truvy Trollop came out as an old lady, but soon transformed into a rock chick. Poor girl rocked out more than she planned when her pasty popped off, but she did a fabulous job at finishing off her “I hate Everything About You” routine. Monique Honeybush pulled of the grand finale with flying colors with “One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure.”

Other performers included; Lucy DeLovely, Vera Va Voom, Diletta DeLight, Kicky LaRue and Belle Bombshell.

Throughout the show audience members were brought up for a shot at the MCB Game Show segment. At one point, contestants had to imitate their best fake orgasim over the mic. Talk about uncomfortable!

If you missed MCB you can catch them April 3rd at The Belcourt.

Also- PANTY RAID! BURLESQUE will present “Around the World in Eighty Minutes, A Valentine’s Day Spectacular”
this Friday the 13th at Exit/in. In addition to Panty Raid!, the show will star El Vez, Gypsyville
Bellydance, Bodhicitta Bellydance, Delacey Santini,
SideShow Bennie and Spinning Inward.
